In the north are the Cheviots, a range of hills that mark the border between England and Scotland. Further south, the hills give way to areas of rolling moorland, some of which have been covered by forestry plantations to form Kielder Forest. The southernmost part of the park covers the dramatic central section of Hadrian's Wall.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne can be reached by means of a paved causeway at low tide.

In the summer the Farne Islands provide a haven for thousands of pairs of nesting seabirds like puffin and guillemot and are the home for one of Europe's largest gray seal colonies.

Kielder Water & Forest Park is home to northern Europe's largest man-made lake and England's largest forest.
