Just 20 minutes drive over Alnwick Moor and Rimside Moor with their breathtaking views brings you to Cragside, a National Trust property built on a rocky crag high above the Debdon Burn. It was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity.

Warkworth Castle and Hermitage is likewise about 20 minutes drive.

Bamburgh Castle was the seat of the ancient kings of Northumberland and can truly be described as an iconic. Rising dramatically from the shoreline, its image appears on so many of the Northumberland tourist brochures.

Northumberland National Park is the northernmost national park in England. The park covers several distinct areas. In the north are the Cheviots, a range of hills that mark the border between England and Scotland. Further south, the hills give way to areas of rolling moorland, some of which have been covered by forestry plantations to form Kielder Forest. The southernmost part of the park covers the dramatic central section of Hadrian's Wall.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne can be reached by means of a paved causeway at low tide.

In the summer the Farne Islands provide a haven for thousands of pairs of nesting seabirds like puffin and guillemot and are the home for one of Europe's largest gray seal colonies.

Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site runs for 150 miles from South Shields to Ravenglass on the Cumbrian coast.

Kielder Water & Forest Park is home to northern Europe's largest man-made lake and England's largest forest.

Alnwick is conveniently situated for day trips to Berwick-Upon-Tweed, the Lake District and the Scottish Borders. Edinburgh and Newcastle can be reached by an easy train journey from Alnmouth station.
